Fantastic or eh

Filed under: General — Jim Murphy @ 11:02 am

I saw the Fantastic Four movie over the weekend with some friends. But before we saw the new one we made ourselves watch the horribly funny 1994 Fantastic Four movie. Our thinking was that after we see the craptastic 1994 film anythings better. Hell Daredevil could be ocsar worthy after watching this movie. And it did work, I thought the movie was ok, nothing great, I don’t expect a sequel, but it wasn’t a complete waste of time. I may have thought differently if I hadden’t seen the orginal film, but now I’ll never know.

Getting back to the rockin 1994 film I do have to point out one of the worst work arounds for a low budget I’ve ever seen. I’m going to skip the part about how the last few scenes are done in what seems to be Poser or Bryce 3d. I’ll also skip the part about how they explain how they all get up into space… because they don’t really explain it well. Ben pretty much asks Mrs. Storm if Sue and Johnny can go into space with them and Reed caves because Sue looks hot to him. Good enough reason as any to send 2 well undertrained teens into space with a jock and some guy in his 30s… Ok I’ll skip to my favorite part of the movie. Dr. Doom!

Now, the good doctor wears a mask as we all know, but this is so low budget they never go over his lines in a clear voice. So you have to strain to hear what the hell he’s talking about. So about half way into the movie they figure this out and some genius has an idea, Dr. Doom should use hand gestures… I’ll repeat that Dr. Doom should use hand gestures! What the hell is wrong with these people? Did they just give up? “Fuck it, let him use his hands to talk” Come on now! Atleast try a little, but out that awesomely bad Bryce 3d ending and redo Dr. Doom’s lines. For a sample of what I mean, Dr. Doom is talking to the FF on some kind of big ass TV and tells them they have 12 hours to do something. And the good doctor uses his finger as a pen and writes the number 12 backwards in the air. So to us it looks like 21 or Z1. If you can do yourself a favor and never watch this movie. The 1994 movie I mean, you can go see the new one… it won’t cause brain damage like the older one.
