Comic Numbering

Filed under: Comics, HeroicWallpapers — Jim Murphy @ 10:24 am

I never really understood re-numbering of comics. And this post by Marvel’s Tom Brevoort made me see both sides of re-numbering. I don’t agree with re-numbering as a marketing ploy but I could understand re-numbering to kick off a new story arc. Then new readers won’t see Issue #506 and think they need to read 505 other issues. I do think the best of both worlds would be two numbers. One for the story arc and one for the collector. It’d be hard as a collect to look for issue 6 when there’s been 15 of them. Maybe it wouldn’t be took hard if they put the story arc name on it. Then you’d just need issue 6 of the Neverland story arc or whatever it’s called. They could put the “collector number” somewhere small so not to confuse the new readers. Maybe include it as the first number of the bar code or something. Just so we can say “I’d like to get issue 350 of X-men” and not “I’d like to get issue 4 of the Highway storyarc for X-men”, it’s not that it’s harder to say I just think it would be easier for everyone. Then they could still post “500th Issue!” badges on issue milestones.
