Review: Spider-Man 3

Filed under: HeroicWallpapers, Movie Reviews — Jim Murphy @ 11:22 am

There’s about 70 million reviews for this movie so really me reviewing it is like trying to whisper to your buddy who’s 15 rows in front of you during a rock concert. Yet still I write. Needless to say there’s a few spoilers in here. Mostly about the ending and small things here and there. So read at your own risk.

Blades of Glory

Filed under: HeroicWallpapers, Movie Reviews — Jim Murphy @ 9:55 am

Saw Blades of Glory last week with Tana. I think you have to be a fan of Will Ferrell to enjoy the movie. Most of his movies are just stupid humor. He plays the big idiot who is clueless and he’s surrounded by other funny people. But for the most part his character really doesn’t change. More like his voice changes and they add little things to the character. Take Ron Burgundy and his Blades of Glory character. In anchor man he was a sexist news anchor from the 70s. In Blades of Glory he was a sexaholic who knew how to skate well. Any of the lines said in Blades of Glory I could picture Ron Burgundy saying. I think thats the problem with some people. They don’t like that character and he’s pretty much the same in every movie (minus Stranger Than Fiction and a few others).

I thought the movie was very funny. Still not the best Will Ferrell staring role, but I’ll be picked it up once it comes out on DVD. I still think Anchorman is the funniest of his movies. Matter of fact I should rank them!

  1. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
  2. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
  3. Blades of Glory
  4. Old School

Now that’s just those funny movies where he’s one of the main characters. I also loved him in Wedding Crashers and Starsky & Hutch.

Overall Score: A-

300: Movie VS. Comic

Filed under: Comics, HeroicWallpapers, Movie Reviews, Movies — Jim Murphy @ 2:15 pm

I saw 300 over the weekend. If you haven’t seen the 300 movie yet or read the comic you may want to stop reading now. I actually got the chance to read the comic before I went to go see it. I wasn’t really impressed with the comic. The art was confusing and flat. And in the comic the King was kind of a dick. And by kind of I mean super. But in the movie they made him into a nicer killing machine… if that makes sense. (more…)

Review: Ghost Rider

Filed under: HeroicWallpapers, Movie Reviews — Jim Murphy @ 2:49 pm

Last weekend I saw Ghost Rider. I didn’t have high hopes for it but I never could get into the comic either. I think it’s the whole motorcycle thing. It’s apart of him. Like Wolverine rides a motorcycle but it’s not linked to his healing or claws. But Ghost Rider can’t go anywhere without his bike. Just something I never really liked. So this review is going to be based on the movie, not how the movie ties into the comic. It may also contain spoilers, so you’ve been warned.

V for Vendetta

Filed under: Movie Reviews — Jim Murphy @ 10:24 am

Saw this last night, and like most people I liked it. I have yet to read the comic, so I think I need to pick it up. What I really liked was the actor who played V, not his voice (voice was fine, don’t get me wrong) but the body language of V. You could see how he was feeling with the mask on. It’s surprising since even Spider-Man movies have to remove Peters mask to show his emotional side. Hell, Spider-Man comics do kinda the same thing by changing the size of his eyes, something that can’t happen in the real world. I also think Ms. Portman was really convincing.

This might have been from the comic (matter of fact I’m almost certain of it), but I really liked the sending of the V masks to the people. From what I’ve read from others V in the comic wanted anarchy not just a government change and that’s been the big gripe with the movie. But who is to know what happens after the 5th of November (since the movie ends). For all we know the people do want a country without government. They’ve been lied to for decades, even the news is controlled by the government. I know a few people think America is now like this, but it’s a little different. Sure we’ve been lied to for many many years, but the only way we know that is because some form of news people uncovers it. And one could argue that V didn’t want a government change at all, he was just using that as a free pass to kill the ones that screwed him over. It’d hard to tell really.
