300: Movie VS. Comic

Filed under: Comics, HeroicWallpapers, Movie Reviews, Movies — Jim Murphy @ 2:15 pm

I saw 300 over the weekend. If you haven’t seen the 300 movie yet or read the comic you may want to stop reading now. I actually got the chance to read the comic before I went to go see it. I wasn’t really impressed with the comic. The art was confusing and flat. And in the comic the King was kind of a dick. And by kind of I mean super. But in the movie they made him into a nicer killing machine… if that makes sense. (more…)

Comic Numbering

Filed under: Comics, HeroicWallpapers — Jim Murphy @ 10:24 am

I never really understood re-numbering of comics. And this post by Marvel’s Tom Brevoort made me see both sides of re-numbering. I don’t agree with re-numbering as a marketing ploy but I could understand re-numbering to kick off a new story arc. Then new readers won’t see Issue #506 and think they need to read 505 other issues. I do think the best of both worlds would be two numbers. One for the story arc and one for the collector. It’d be hard as a collect to look for issue 6 when there’s been 15 of them. Maybe it wouldn’t be took hard if they put the story arc name on it. Then you’d just need issue 6 of the Neverland story arc or whatever it’s called. They could put the “collector number” somewhere small so not to confuse the new readers. Maybe include it as the first number of the bar code or something. Just so we can say “I’d like to get issue 350 of X-men” and not “I’d like to get issue 4 of the Highway storyarc for X-men”, it’s not that it’s harder to say I just think it would be easier for everyone. Then they could still post “500th Issue!” badges on issue milestones.

Athlete Blogs

Filed under: Sports — Jim Murphy @ 9:02 am

Athletes seem to be getting on the blog band wagon. For example Curt Shilling (Red Sox Pitcher for those not in the know) got on the blog train. It’s a real blog, not like the Drew Bledsoe Blog I posted about a few months back. Shilling was talking about it on the radio, so unless WEEI got a fantastic voice impersonator, I’ll believe it.

Smallville Wedding

Filed under: HeroicWallpapers, Television — Jim Murphy @ 9:18 am

(Spoilers and what not, read at your own risk.)

So Lana and Lex got hitched. Lana didn’t really want to. Incase you forgot or like spoilers. Lana tricked Chloe into getting her wedding gift that was hidden in a freezer and closing the door behind her locking her in. So Chloe decides to call Clark (after Lana didn’t pick up). Clark rips off the door to free Chloe, but what he didn’t know was that Lana was in the background watching everything. So now she knows all about him and his powers. (Chloe talks about his Iron Skin and other little hits like being bullet proof). Now Lana wants to call the wedding off because shes still smitten with Clark and she understands why Clark couldn’t tell her. So she writes a letter to Lex and who walks in? Lionel! Somehow he gathers that she knows about Clark being super and threated to kill Clark with his one Achilles’ heel that she didn’t know about. So in order to protect Clark she marries Lex amid tears and some blood shed (Lana’s Doctor is killed by Lex in the very church he weds her when the doc threatens to tell Lana all about the baby she has in her womb). Very Shakespearean.

Avenger Down?

Filed under: Comics, HeroicWallpapers — Jim Murphy @ 1:09 pm

This contains Civil War Spoilers, so stop reading if you don’t want to know.

Unless you’ve been on some kind media boycott you probably know by now that Captain America is dead. I mean it’s been on Fox News, almost every website I’ve been to has an article about it. Hell even Colbert had his Word linked to Captain America’s death last night.

Heroes Theories

Filed under: HeroicWallpapers, Television — Jim Murphy @ 11:46 am

I watched the latest Heroes with Tana Monday night. It was good. I’m really starting to hate the cliffhanger stuff. I have a feeling they’ll end the season with a cliffhanger too. And I don’t think I can cope with a 3 month cliffhanger. But Lost does it every season and I seem to survive. Heroes could look at comic books for inspiration, sure they have cliffhangers but at the end of the story arc there’s some kind of resolution. No “WHAT WILL PETER DO NOW?!?!” moment. So maybe they’ll treat episodes like issues and a season like a story arc. Then they could progress season 2 a little into the future, maybe where Hiro knows more english. And maybe Nathan is… (spoilers ahead mates! Yarr! Why are spoilers pirates with me?) (more…)
