Found this article on Cnet. Seems some bloggers started this “Draw a Batgirl” event that just turned into a beast. See the full listing here.

The real last stand?

Filed under: Movies — Jim Murphy @ 9:58 am

SSH linked to this article about an interview with a Fox Studio Head Tom Rothman.

You’ll see more of the X-Men world. You know, we’re developing a Wolverine movie right now, we’re developing a Magneto picture. What I will say is, I’m gonna give an Alan Greenspan type answer but it’s the truth which is, which I am sure will parse endlessly, this movie which I can tell you now the official title, if you like you can break that story, is X-Men: The Last Stand, it’s is the conclusion of this trilogy. These three movies work as a trilogy. These characters in this relationship, it’s the culminaton of that saga. It’s the culmination and the resolution of those relationships laid out in the first two movies. That doesn’t mean never, I would ever say never again but I will say that this brings that saga to an end. It’s quite the way the last Lord of the Rings, Return of the King, brought that trilogy to a conclusion in terms of those characters, that’s what this movie does. It goes all the way back to the first one and rounds off and completes that three part story.

The magneto movie is the one I’m looking forward to most. But I do hope they start another X-men movie. I enjoy them and after awhile you won’t beable to get the whole cast together.

A-Poc returns!

Filed under: Comics — Jim Murphy @ 2:07 pm

Check it out! Apocalypse is back! He’s big, blue and cranky! Just being woken up and all to find that all the mutants are human now. From the article it sounds like he thinks of himself as a savior. Wonder how they’ll do that. He’s always been survival of the fitest and all that jazz be interesting to see him want to save mutantkind by taking out the humans. Like a Magneto. I’m sure he’d still have no problem killing off the mutants who disagree with him.

Gweny!

Filed under: Movies — Jim Murphy @ 9:53 am

Found this on SHH. Now since they kind of skipped a block of time from spider-man 1 to 2 I hope they already have a relationship we don’t know about. Thats how I’d do it anyway. Peter and Gwen were an item, Peter breaks it off because being Spider-Man was more important and all that crap. Then they bump into each other (literally) on the streets of New York. Show flashback scenes. And kill her off at the end of the movie. Now what would be interesting is if they kill off MJ instead, since Kirsten Dunst said she wouldn’t return if there is a fourth. And that would really shock the fans, of both the movie and the comic. And I think it would have the same effect as the original killing of Gwen. Man I’m a geek, I just got goosebumps.

Drew Dork

Filed under: Sports — Jim Murphy @ 3:06 pm

So recently I got a late christmas gift from a friend. I open it up to see a patriots jersey with the number 11 on it. Now thats the number of former QB Drew Bledsoe for those not in the know. So I flip it around and in the name it says “DORK”. I thought it was hilarious.

So on Saturday I wore it out to lunch and got a few odd looks and a few “Where did you get that?”. Next year I plan on getting him one that says “GEEK” or maybe “DUMBASS”.

I do however thing the jersey is cursed because on Saturday the patriots lost in the playoffs. They had 5 turnovers, which I think is the most they’ve done in awhile. Damn you Drew Dorkison and your jersey.

China found America?

Filed under: History — Jim Murphy @ 2:16 pm

I’m a big History channel geek also. So I find this is rather interesting. It seems a chinese General by the name of Zheng He mapped the known world in 1418. From the article.

THE brave seamen whose great voyages of exploration opened up the world are iconic figures in European history. Columbus found the New World in 1492; Dias discovered the Cape of Good Hope in 1488; and Magellan set off to circumnavigate the world in 1519. However, there is one difficulty with this confident assertion of European mastery: it may not be true.

It seems more likely that the world and all its continents were discovered by a Chinese admiral named Zheng He, whose fleets roamed the oceans between 1405 and 1435. His exploits, which are well documented in Chinese historical records, were written about in a book which appeared in China around 1418 called “The Marvellous Visions of the Star Raft”.

Interesting read.

Not a Computer Guy

Filed under: Tech — Jim Murphy @ 10:54 am

Found this on digg. It’s a funny article that I think all tech people can relate to.

A gentle warning to young or up-and-coming IT professionals: keep your professional identity a secret! Guard your privacy like a superhero, because before you can say “what do you mean reboot?”, you’ll be the neighborhood troubleshooter, constantly on call to save the day.

It’s true! It’s bad enough being the family troubleshooter but take my boss for example. His neighbors know he has an internet startup and he brings in about a computer a week. We all draw straws then make the intern do it. The straws is for drinking later… anyway, before the intern I was the spyware remover / computer recovery person. I did house calls! Why because I like my job and this was for one of the partners.

The worst part is when you can’t fix it. They look at you like you just slept with their sister and caught you selling the sex tape on ebay for a buck. “What do you mean you can’t fix it?”. Look just because I drive a car doesn’t make me a mechanic. I USE a computer, I didn’t invent them or even help create your particular box. Honest!

Here’s another good quote from the article. Its worse for this guy, he’s not even a windows person. So explaining that to people is even worse. Computer != Windows.

It astounds me how few consumers seem to realize that Microsoft is not the only game in town. Moreover, it astounds me that it is, for all practical purposes, impossible to tell most consumers that there is another game. As a sports discussion, it would go something like this:

“Did you watch the Raiders game?”

“No, I don’t follow football ——”

“What do you think of the new quarterback?”

“Really, football’s not my thing. I don’t know.”

“I thought that you said that you’re a sports fan?”

“No, I said that I watched tennis.”

“Right, so what did you think of the penalty called in the Raiders game?”

“I watch tennis.”

“Why would they call a penalty like that?”

Iron Spidey?

Filed under: Comics — Jim Murphy @ 9:31 am

Found this this morning. They’ve hinted at a new costume for Spider-Man at the end of this ‘Other’ story. Didn’t they try this already with that clone thing? And doesn’t it look like almost the same design as that? (Click more to see the image)

Don’t Annoy Me!

Filed under: General — Jim Murphy @ 10:33 am

Something needs to be done about this. By now you’ve heard of it. President Bush approved a bill that would give jail time to someone who annoys someone else online without using their real name. Here’s a quote for ya.

A new federal law states that when you annoy someone on the Internet, you must disclose your identity. Here’s the relevant language.

“Whoever…utilizes any device or software that can be used to originate telecommunications or other types of communications that are transmitted, in whole or in part, by the Internet… without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person…who receives the communications…shall be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.”

Does that mean all these spammers can serve jail time? What if some website annoys you? Can you report that?  This is a monsterous can of worms that they’ll need to close up quick or you’ll just have a flood of court cases.
