Fox Show: 24

Filed under: Television — Jim Murphy @ 9:37 am

So I watched the season finale of 24. For those who don’t like spoilers, stop now and click here

I had a few beefs with this series, don’t get me wrong I love it but some times I have a hard time suspending my disbelief. Jack was “killed” again to stop the president’s hit man from killing him over something he did to stop a nuke from hitting a major US city. But of course seconds after people proclaimed him dead, they injected him with something to start his heart again. How many times can you stop this guy’s heart and restart it? I think this is the 3rd time its happened to him. You’d think it would have some kind of effect on his heart or it would be all the rage with the terrorists they fight against.

I also think this would have been the best way to end the series. Everyone except a select few think Jack’s dead. He disappears into Mexico or some other country and thats that. I mean he’s done quite enough for the good ole US of A. Stopped two nuclear attacks and saved the then future president. Not bad for one guy. That being said, I’ll be checking it out in January 2006 if only to see how they make this one work.

Review: Star Wars Ep. III

Filed under: Movie Reviews — Jim Murphy @ 9:38 am

So I was one of the many that went to Star Wars at 12:01 on Wednesday. I’m not a huge fan of the series but my friend is and I went with him. I had mixed feelings about the movie. Maybe it was the late movie or something but the middle seemed kind of slow. Nothing awful about that, they do need to build up Skywalker’s switch. But thats my main problem, his switch is too sudden. Kind of went like this:

Sith Lord: “Come on help me out”
Skywalker: “I don’t think I should”
Sith Lord: “Just do it pansy ass”
Skywalker: “Ok.”
Sith Lord: “Now go kill all your friends and their children”
Skywalker: “Yes master”

Maybe someone needs to explain the dark side to me. OR they should have in the movie. Maybe it’s like being possessed and they become a completely different person. I mean he started to choke his wife, who he switched sides to help her live in the first place, kind of defeating the point there Ani. I think it needed to be longer, and just focus on that inner struggle.

That being said they did set up the orginal movie rather nicely. You get to learn why no Jedi’s were disappearing when they died like Obe and Yoda did. And you get to see Yoda kick some major ass. I did get a little chill when I first heard Vader’s “breathing”. So going back to another post about the star wars TV show, I think they should do it. Seems like quite a few things happen between episodes 3 and 4 that need to fill the gap.

“The Riddler” has pasted

Filed under: General — Jim Murphy @ 2:56 pm

Frank Gorshin, the Riddler from the orginal Batman TV series with Adam West, has died. He was 72. From what I remember of the show he was my favorite villian. Always found it odd that he’d give away what he was doing. You’d think he’d smarten up and give him a “bad” riddle. But anyway, I always liked Frank Gorshin’s Riddler.

X-men 3 News

Filed under: Movies — Jim Murphy @ 11:58 am

It seems Newsarama is saying Beast will be played by Kelsey Grammer. The voice is right on for me, but its his looks I’m worried about. I’m sure they can cover it up with makeup (which there should be alot of since this will be the Blue furry beast), but I’ll have to wait and see before I feel good about this one. I don’t think Beast should be some 50 year old mutant, why would have a need for the school? Be interesting to see how they answer that question. In the comic he’s been there since day one and is now a teacher. He no longer needs the school the school needs him.

In other X3 tidbits Juggernaut may have been casted.

For other Marvel related Movie news check out Empire Online, they have a nifty interview with Avi Arad, President of Marvel Studios.

Comic Trivia

Filed under: General — Jim Murphy @ 10:37 pm

While playing a recent game of Trivial Pursuit this question came up: “What former Spider-Man artist went on to help ’spawn’ Image Comics?” I was giddy with excitment as I wanted to flex my geek knowledge, but this was for the other team so I say I knew the answer if no one else got it. And said it after the timer went off. Since then I’ve been looking for a Marvel or any comic related Trivial Pursuit game, I found one but it seems to be for kids really. So I plan to make my own online version of one. If anyone reads this and has an comic trivia, just post it in a comment. I plan to have over 100 questions but each time you visit the page you get 25 random ones.

Keep on Trekkin’?

Filed under: Television — Jim Murphy @ 9:42 am

Soon Enterprise will be over. I never really found interest in the show, watched the first season. Thought it was ok, nothing to make time for really. Then I started watching random episodes of season two and it turned into Quantum Trek. Where Archer would go back and forth in time… didn’t they have Kirk and his crew do this and it was UNHEARD of in the movie where whales save the day? Then why can the VERY FIRST star ship do it so easily? And how is it that the first ship discovers the borg, yet Picard and his boys have never heard of them? Do they not believe in recording anything they do? I was a huge fan of Next Generation, I even liked the last movie that bombed. But this is pure crap.

I would have liked this show more if they made it sometime after Next Generation. I guess they were afraid of that with the Voyager bomb they just had. They also need to get off this hot officer kick they’ve had recently. They pay too much attention to the skimpy outfits. No one will watch a series on Bikini clad airheads performing Shakespire for more than just a few espisodes. Next Generation didn’t really have a hot officer, maybe Troy and she did nothing for me. But the stories were interesting, so I watched. I know, an amazing concept.

Maybe it is best that trek goes away for a bit. Let technology advance some more then come out with a newer Star Trek. I don’t think the series should vanish, but I don’t think we should have Star Trek for a few years. Until then we’ll have to enjoy pages like this one: www.khaaan.com

Who should play Wonder Woman

Filed under: Movies — Jim Murphy @ 5:51 pm

Peter David is talking about Rachel Weisz playing Wonder Woman. I’m not too sure I agree with that statement. And it’s not the height thing. I was perfectly fine with a tall wolverine. I just don’t think she has the look for it. She seems too girl next door and not godess like.

Other’s have said Shannon Elizabeth, or Charisma Carpenter and I still don’t think they’d work. Maybe because they’ve always played the dumb “blondes” in the parts I’ve seen. I do think Charisma there has the looks to pull it off. But I don’t really have the perfect wonder woman in mind. I do agree with Mr. David’s choice to play WW’s mom, Linda Carter.

New Logo for DC

Filed under: Comics — Jim Murphy @ 8:18 am

Being a comic geek and a graphic designer, this is a double special find. DC released a new logo. It seems Warner Bros is more serious about DC now that they figured out that Spiderman the movie made almost double of what Marvel did in one year. So except some movies from DC to start pumping out, we can only hope they’re as great as the Fantastic Four movie made in the 1990s.

New Avengers for me Part 2

Filed under: Comics — Jim Murphy @ 8:14 am

So I got my ebay comics a few days ago. I only have issues 1-4, and 4 only shows 1 panel with Wolverine in the background. I’m guessing he joins the avengers in issue 5. I rather enjoyed it. Spider-man gives his nervous remarks, cap just tries to hold everyone together and Sentry starts out in prison because he was asked to be put there. I do think Sentry is the most interesting. They didn’t really go into him all that much so I must look for other issues. To ebay with me!
